Cabotage Day

YATED Hosted 77 People from Nursing Homes and Children’s Homes at the Sea in the Maritime and Cabotage Day Event The Yacht and Boat Industry Association (YATED) brought together 33 children from Küçükyalı Children’s Homes Site and 34 elderly people from Maltepe Nursing Home on a trip to the Princes’ Islands with the event organized for the fifth time as part of the Cabotage and Maritime Day. A wreath was laid in the sea in memory of our maritime martyrs, and the Maritime Search and Rescue (DAK-SAR) Association was present with its boat and added color to the event. YATED Director Kadir Karakaya described the event as a bridge between generations and emphasized that maritime is not only an economic but also a social and cultural value.

YATED hosted our elders and children at sea this year as part of the Cabotage and Maritime Day event, which has been traditionally organized since 2021. Participants had lunch together on the boat and had a pleasant time with music.

‘WE WILL CELEBRATE THE 100TH YEAR TOGETHER’ Speaking at the event, YATED Director Kadir Karakaya said: “Maritime and Cabotage Day is a national holiday celebrated every year on July 1st. It has been 99 years since our Cabotage Law, which is a giant step towards the abolition of capitulations, one of the most important achievements of our republican history, and a cornerstone in the development of our country’s economy and trade and the registration of its independence, entered into force on July 1, 1926. Next year, God willing, we will celebrate its 100th anniversary together. With this law, which is the symbol of our sovereignty and independence in our territorial waters, which laid the foundations for the development of Turkish maritime and economic development, all kinds of cargo and passenger transportation rights, pilotage and towage services in Turkey’s ports and territorial waters began to be carried out by Turkish citizens and Turkish ships with Turkish flags.

We ARE BUILDING A BRIDGE BETWEEN GENERATIONS Stating that maritime is not only an economic activity for Turkey, but also a cultural and social value, Kadir Karakaya said: “As a country that is intertwined with the sea, we believe that all our citizens should benefit from this richness. Seeing our nursing home residents refreshing their memories and our children building new dreams reminds us once again how appropriate and meaningful this event is. We do not see this event, which we have been organizing for five years with increasing interest, as just a trip. This organization is a social responsibility project that builds bridges between generations, increases social solidarity and makes people feel that they are not alone. As YATED, we will continue to produce projects for the benefit of society, to spread the love and culture of the sea, and to explain the importance of seafaring. Because we believe that the sea is life itself and the most beautiful stakeholder.”
